In the spring of 2010 Debbie and I went to the Four Corners to backpack into Grand Gulch via Bullet Canyon. Bullet has some of the coolest ruins in the Grand Gulch complex and there's at least one (apparently) year round water source near Jailhouse Ruin. Bullet Canyon has some challenging parts so I'd not recommend it for a first trip. Kane Gulch or Collins Canyon are probably better choices, but if you're fairly sure footed and don't mind crawling among boulders you'll like this route. Be sure to check in at the Kane Gulch Ranger Station to make sure that water is likely to be present.
The camping near Jailhouse Ruin is nice and the water is plentiful but it's loaded with minerals and not cold at all. No surprise. On our third day, up a nearby side canyon, we found a deep pool of much better what. I doubt that it's always there.
