Opal Creek is a near year-round hiking area along a beautiful and unusual stream in the Oregon Cascades.  It's old growth, another unusual setting.  The stream flows over light colored rock rather than the usual dark basalt and that allows reflections of sky and green light filtered through the forest.  There are many enormous cedar, fir and hemlock all through the area.
