​The Cascades and other ranges in the Pacific Northwest

   We hike and backpack mostly in the Cascades of Oregon and Washington, though there are may other ranges including the Wallowas/Eagle Cap area, the North Cascades, Elkhorns, Ochocos, and so on.  The coastal dunes are here too.   The west slope of the Cascades is wet and very green, from rainforest up to timberline (around 6000' at Mt. Hood).  The east slopes are far more dry.  The main crest of the range is worn down and fairly even, but very dissected with streams.  All along the range are newer volcanoes, Mt. Baker, Mt. Rainer, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Hood, the Three Sisters, and many more.
