Start at the Pine Creek Trailhead south of Bishop, CA.  There's an outfitter there.  The trail starts upward soon after following an old road.  To the right is a tungsten mine.  I've been up this pass three times.  Once the mine was shut down and the other two times in was in operation.  It's a fairly long slog up to the first Pine Lake and beyond to Honeymoon Lake.  We've gone off to the north to Italy Pass and Granite Park, which is a nice trip.  On this one we continued on up to Pine Creek Pass.  From there we did three good day hikes, off trail, wandering.  Dan spotted a condor from the edge of the Royce Lakes basin so keep your eyes open.
