Bob, Dan and I drove out to NE Oregon in September 2015 to backpack for a week in the Wallowas / Eagle Cap Wilderness. The weather all over had been great for a couple of weeks or more but it changed. Plus, there'd been a recent fire near the Lostine, and part of the lower part of the canyon was burned. But it was good to get back to the Wallowas after a long absence. We came out a little early and drove to the John Day area to visit the fossil beds and more.

Fall was coming fast. People were very few.
Abandoned cabin along the Lostine. A miner once lived here.
We day hiked up to the divide. That's part of the fine lakes basin at the center of the range.

Dan and Bob in camp. It was a chilly, soggy trip. The next morning we had snow and decided to not move camp higher.

On our way out it cleared off some, of course.
